Co-operative education integrates related work experience with your academic area of study. It is a great opportunity to put your learning to work, to grow your personal network of contacts, to test-drive career choices or to set off on a long-term career path.
The are numerous supports and services available to students in the Commerce Co-op program who choose to take advantage of them. These are provided by the Director of the Commerce Co-op program, faculty and the team in Management Career Services (MCS).
For the co-op work terms, the MCS team has clearly defined roles and responsibilities:

Expertise and Support

The MCS team offers the students expertise and support in developing career plans. We deliver modules in the Business Communication Classes and other workshops to prepare the students for their job search. This includes workshops on planning your career, cover letter, resumes, networking, corporate tours, etc.

Approval of Work Term Opportunities

The MCS team reviews every job that a student or employer submits as a potential opportunity for our students. Each work situation is developed and/or approved by MCS as a suitable learning situation.

Work Site Visits

The MCS team performs work site visits with the every student and employer - the co-operative student's progress on the job is monitored by this team.

Liaison between students and employers

The MCS team addresses any work site issues that the students bring forward and liaise between the students and employers.

We encourage all business students to use these services. We welcome any suggestions from students who have been involved with our various initiatives. We also welcome new ideas and make every effort to maximize our resources in an effort to support student driven initiatives.
